Our First Bonus Book is...
almost 2 years ago – Mon, May 13, 2024 at 07:14:06 PM

Hey there Dream Warriors -

If you just joined us: Welcome! And thanks for backing.

If you've been with us from the beginning: thanks again!

While we wait to slay that next stretch goal, I wanted to start sharing more details about the bonus bundle you unlocked for Stretch Goal #1.

Everyone at the digital deluxe tier and up will receive a bundle of free digital comics. How many books depends on YOU, because we're giving away 1 free book per every 50 backers. Right now, that means you're getting at least 4.

Our first book comes to us from our friends at Dren Productions...

While we can't share the whole graphic novel with you, Dren has offered up a healthy preview that we think you're going to love. Here's how they pitch the book:

"Back in 1957, Ed Wood brought us a movie about aliens who tried to raise the dead to destroy humanity in order to prevent us from causing a galaxy destroying weapon that they believed we would one day create. This was Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Obviously, plans 1 through 8 failed, and (spoiler alert, but frankly the movie has been out for 63 years now, so there shouldn't be much to spoil) so did Plan 9. But what happened in the years since 1957? Did the aliens just give up? Were they going to cease their plans to stop us and save the galaxy? Of course not. Almost 60 years have passed, and in that time, they have attempted to destroy us nearly 50 more times, and humanity has become quite adept at fighting them off. But today, they are coming back for their 59th plan, a plan that is so nefarious, it just might work.

How will the aliens try to destroy humanity this time? Just look in your hand. That little device that's always by your side and that you could never live without. They will destroy us using our own cell phones."

Clay again. While I can't tell you if the aliens succeed this time... I can tell you that Dren is back on Kickstarter with a sequel. One they call...

This time out, Captain Jack Trent leads a cadre of Earth-based explorers into the cosmos to search for a new planet to call home. Little do they know they're being followed by The Invaders, whose plans to destroy humanity have only intensified over time. When a seemingly random meteor shower leaves the crew stranded in space, Captain Trent will discover the Invaders aren't the only aliens out  for human blood...

PLAN 79 looks like another winner in Dren's inspired series of "B-Movies on paper," so if you want to say thanks for the free book...

That's all for now. Back soon to spotlight another bonus book.

Thanks again for your support...and if you know someone who would enjoy DREAMQUEST, please send 'em our way!

Stretch Goal #1 Unlocked!
almost 2 years ago – Thu, May 09, 2024 at 07:12:49 PM

If you recently joined us--thank you!

If you've been with us for a while--thanks again!

Yesterday we officially blasted past the first stretch goal, and we are now preparing for a surprise attack on Stretch Goal #2.

Stretch Goal #1 - Unlocked

This means everyone at the digital deluxe tier and up will receive a bundle of free digital comics.

How many books?

That's up to YOU.

We're giving away 1 free book per every 50 backers. Since we also hit 200 backers yesterday, that means you're getting at least 4.

How many will we add before we're through...? Stay tuned!

As for which books you've unlocked already, more details coming soon. And stretch goal #2...?

When we reach $10,000, we'll add 2 extra story pages to the book!

That's right--the more we raise, the more book you get.

$10K bumps us up to a full 50 pages... but there's always room for more if we raise more...

So how long will the book end up being?

Only time...and YOU...can tell...

Thanks again for the support!

Spectress & Sabanion #1-5

Kurt Zauer is back on Kickstarter with the latest issue of his supernatural horror story about Aneksi, the ghost of Cleopatra's top assassin. Aneksi died defending Cleopatra against the Romans and has lived as a ghost for centuries. Over time, she's learned to rejoin the world of the living. She is at the cusp of finding purpose in the modern world of the living... but she is bound by an ancient curse to a demon named Sabanion. As Aneksi pushes more into the world of the living, she must drag Sabanion with her. Sabanion is a Wrath Demon, capable of incredible destruction. Let's just say he complicates things...

If 36 pages of ghosts, Egyptian mythology, magic, demons, military tough guys and ancient secrets sounds like your kinda comic...

The Witches of Oz #1

Kat Calamia and birthday boy Phil Falco practically live on Kickstarter. As in, they are live all the time. This time they've brought along living legend Terry Moore as cover artist for their reimagining of The Wizard of Oz. Here's the pitch:

Glinda the Good Witch was once loved by all. But since The Wizard left the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Lion in charge...Oz is not what it once was. Looking for a scapegoat for their problems, the Emerald City turns on Glinda...literally burning her at the stake in her own Witch Trial. In her final hours, the only person Glinda has left to turn to is...the Wicked Witch of the West. A misunderstood outcast who wants to mourn her sister in peace. She wants nothing to do with the city that turned their back on her. Now the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch must team up to find the one person who can save Oz: Dorothy...and the two witches might just FALL IN LOVE along the way!

If that sounds like a piece of comic book magic...

Hey there Dream Warriors -

If you just joined us: Welcome! And thanks for backing.

If you've been with us from the beginning: thanks again!

We just sent out the Day 3 Early Backer Bonus through Kickstarter messages, so please check your inbox for a special gift. This is our way of saying thanks for helping us get off to a great start!

Now, before I get to the meat of the update...

Some of you may have found us through a lengthy preview we shared with a few other campaigns. If that's you, please know that DREAMQUEST Volume 1 is a full 48 pages, so to get the complete story, you'll need to join us at a digital or physical catch-up tier.

In other words: if you only purchase Volume 2 after reading the preview, you might feel like you missed something (because you did!)

Got it?

Good.

Now on to the main attraction...

STRETCH GOAL #1

We are rapidly approaching our first stretch goal at $7,500.

At that point, we'll unlock a digital bundle of bonus books for everyone at the Digital Deluxe Tier and up.

What books, and how many? That's up to you, in a sense, because we are unlocking 1 comic for each 50 backers.

So far, that's 3 bonus books. How many we'll end up with is anyone's guess. But we'll let you know about them as we unlock the extras.

As for Stretch Goal #2... that's at $10,000.

And we're gonna need a bigger book.

Stay tuned!

Kickstarter is a community, and as such, we like to end our updates with a spotlight on some of the great work being done on the platform. Like...

Evie and the Helsings #1–3

Athena Voltaire creator Steve Bryant is back on Kickstarter with his latest, about a rocker named Evie Van Helsing...who also happens to be a vampire slayer. Drawn by Don Cardenas (Spend the Night, Off into the Sunset, Packs of the Low Country), with colors by Jason Millet (Athena Voltaire, Archie Versus Predator), Evie and the Helsings is a 4-issue miniseries that follows Evie's adventures as she navigates life between two worlds. It's like Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Josie and the Pussycats by way of Ash Versus Evil Dead.

I've backed every issue so far, and I can safely say it's well worth the cover charge. Steve and team have created something unique here, and I can't wait to see how it all wraps up.

So if that sounds like a rockin' good time, help them stake some more stretch goals why don't you?

Funded! Thank you!
almost 2 years ago – Thu, May 02, 2024 at 11:48:13 AM

Hey, guess what?

Thanks to you, we are FULLY FUNDED!

On behalf of the whole team -- THANK YOU! We are truly blown away by your support.

One of the absolute best parts of Kickstarter is seeing all of the familiar names and re-connecting with the people who make these books possible.

So, if you're new here: Welcome!

And if you're a Frequent Frier: Welcome back!

Thanks to you, not only did we fund in the first 48 hours, yesterday we hit #2 on Kicktraq's HOT LIST:

There are a lot of comics on Kickstarter, and we're absolutely thrilled you chose to be with us.

Early Backer Bonuses

As a thank you for your early support, we've been sending out messages containing some bonuses for our early backers.

If you were with us on Day 1, you should have two messages in your Kickstarter inbox; Day 2 backers should have 1 message, and we'll be sending another tomorrow.

This is our little way of saying thanks for helping us get off to a great start!

Add-Ons Added!

A backer informed us on Day 1 that we were missing add-ons for the Flops covers. (Thanks for pointing that out, James!)

We've done this long enough to know that if one person writes us with an issue, at least 5 more people are thinking it, so I wanted to let you know we fixed the problem pretty early thanks to this heads up.

If you're a Day 1 backer who wanted to purchase additional copies of the Flops covers but couldn't, please know you can adjust your pledge now and add them to your order.

(These will also be available to add post-campaign during the survey process).

Stretch Goals Coming Soon

I'll be back every now and then to share updates on the campaign--including stretch goals, a few of which we're very excited about--but for now, I'll just say: thanks again for the support!

And if you know someone who'd love DREAMQUEST, please share with a friend or twelve!
